Avatar: Frontiers of Pandora Delayed until 2023-2024

Avatar: Frontiers of Pandora Delayed until 2023-2024

Avatar: Frontiers of Pandora the next gen game being developed by Ubisoft will be delayed past 2022. With very little information coming out about the game in the past year, sadly this isn’t a huge surprise to me. However it is a big let down, only because I am so looking forward to exploring Pandora virtually, and hoped I’d be doing so even before Avatar: The Way of Water came out. The game was first announced in 2017 and Ubisoft has said it won’t arrive before April of 2023 at the earliest. April is the start of Ubisofts next fiscal year, and it’s expected between April 2023-March 2024. I do want them to take their time and make this game be as great as I know it can. I’d rather have a delay than see it come out on time but not be up to par. I know Covid has impacted the ability of talent to come to the office and work directly on the game, as we’ve seen with so many facest of our lives, Covid has really made everything more difficult.

“We want to make [Avatar] a video game industry brand. It is important for us that we come with something that is perfect.”

-Ubisoft CEO Yves Guillemot

Avatar Sequel filming in New Zealand delayed due to Covid-19

Avatar Sequel filming in New Zealand delayed due to Covid-19

Jon Landau spoke to the New Zealand Herald about the live action filming delay,

“If I told you we are going to know something in two weeks I’d be lying. I might not be wrong – even a broken clock is right twice a day. But I would be lying because I don’t know.

“We’ve delayed it. We had plans to come down Friday night with a group of people and start back up and we made the decision to hold off and continue working here [Los Angeles], and come down there a little bit later than we’d planned.

“We’re in the midst of a global crisis and this is not about the film industry. I think everybody needs to do now whatever we can do, as we say here, to flatten the [coronavirus] curve.”

Jon also went on to say that they would be reassessing the delay daily, and that they are trying to do whats in the best interest of the crew. He also said that even though there is a delay they will be working on getting as many minutes of film as possible to WETA who is working on all the digital effects.
