Interview Magazine featuring Sigourney Weaver

Interview Magazine featuring Sigourney Weaver

Since Kiri is such a hot topic, I wanted to share excerpts of a recent interview of Sigourney Weaver by Elizabeth Banks of Interview Magazine. If you’d like to read the interview in its entirety just click the link below.

Sigourney Weaver Interview Magazine

BANKS: Can we talk about the biggest movie of all time that you happen to also be in, Avatar? You worked with James Cameron when you were starting out, and he brings you back for this ginormous movie. What are the defining qualities that make James Cameron who he is and what’s your relationship like?

WEAVER: I think many people have a mistaken idea about Jim, that he’s really driven and really serious. Of course, that’s true, but it wasn’t until I was on the road with him hawking aliens that I realized how incredibly funny the guy is. I was like, “Where did this come from, and where was it when we were spending months running around with the machine gun you designed?” I know he’s going to present me with really unique challenges, and he’s not going to be shy about getting what he wants. In many cases, my first reaction is, “I can’t do that.” I don’t voice this, because I know that I’ll get teased mercilessly about what a wuss I am, but I think that everyone enjoys working with Jim because he does demand so much. On Avatar: The Way of Water, I was older than a lot of the other people, and we had to do a lot of parkour. We had to do burpees. We had to do freediving. Don’t you love these jobs where you have to learn some really outlandish thing that you keep with you for the rest of your life? Freediving, especially, I’m grateful that we spent a year doing that.

BANKS: How long can you hold your breath?

WEAVER: Our teacher Kirk Krack, who teaches the Navy Seals, would have us do these still breathe-ups. We were breathing up on, I think, at least 50 percent oxygen. What we’re breathing regularly is 30 percent oxygen, so you have the advantage of more oxygen in your tissues, and then you’d lie very still, not moving and holding your breath. My husband is from Hawaii and he’s a big swimmer and body surfer, so we took the training together, and we both one day held our breath for six and a half minutes.

BANKS: What?!

WEAVER: I know.

BANKS: Sigourney!

WEAVER: Kirk couldn’t believe it. We couldn’t believe it either, but that’s his training. You learn that you’re not going to die if you don’t take a breath. You learn to say to, he called it “the smiling villain” that wants you to breathe, “Yeah, yeah, yeah. I’m doing this, see you later.” It’s a whole psychological thing. It’s very, very interesting stuff.

BANKS: What are the other projects that you have coming out?

WEAVER: So Avatar I can’t really talk about, but I would say that it’s the biggest stretch I get to play in every possible way. I think if Jim Cameron didn’t know me really well, he wouldn’t have cast me as something as goofy as this. I had to work in a completely different way to play this character, a very physical way.

Avatar Re-release

Avatar Re-release

We’ve known for some time now that Avatar would be coming back into theaters to help jump start the hype train for the upcoming Avatar 2 (The Way of Water). As we get closer to the release date, not a whole lot has been shared about this re-release. So here is what we know so far, it is releasing on 9/23/22. It will be available in cinemas for two weeks only. Regal Movies shows the run time for the reissue will be 162 minutes, which would make it the same version as the original theatrical cut. The re-release will be in 4K HDR. A trailer has been shared on Avatar’s official YouTube, and it is so beautiful, I cannot wait to see this in theaters once again. As of today I haven’t found any where to buy tickets yet, but I’ll keep checking as I’m sure they will go on sale very soon. Avatar was the first film to reach 2 billion box office gross, and currently sits at $2,847,397,339. So if we can reach another $152,602,661 in worldwide gross in two weeks it will be the first to reach 3 billion. I think it can’t do it.

Discovering Pandora and The Avatar Podcast

Discovering Pandora and The Avatar Podcast

I just wanted to highlight a couple of fellow Avatar fans who have been creating and sharing a ton of content lately. First I’ll start with Gerry of Discovering Pandora. I recently listened to Gerry as a guest on an episode of The Avatar Podcast. While I had been seeing his content pop up on social media, I starting paying closer attention after I listened to the podcast. Discovering Pandora shares a bit of everything, from behind the scenes photos on IG of Avatar-The Way of Water, to videos on his YouTube channel breaking down the newest Jake Sully figure. Discovering Pandora is currently at 499 subscribers on YouTube, let’s help get him to 500 and beyond. You can follow him on his socials at-

The second Avatar fan I wanted to shout out is Albert, creator of The Avatar Podcast. If you are like me and you love podcasts, and you love Avatar, this is content that you’ll undoubtedly enjoy. Albert has wide ranging Avatar content that features lots of different guests, which helps keep the podcast fresh and unique each episode. As both of these creators share new content, I’ll be giving their content another spotlight right here on AvatarSequels.com to help further spread this fun and amazing world James Cameron and his team at Lightstorm have built. We are entering the home stretch for Avatar-The Way of Water, and I can’t wait!

McFarlane Toys: Jake Sully

McFarlane Toys: Jake Sully

Yesterday the official Avatar socials released this picture, Jake Sully in his McFarlane Toys plastic glory. Due to online leaks, and what was shown at SDCC, we know McFarlane is releasing Avatar figures in 2 scales. One is a 7″ scale and the other will be smaller, assuming around 3.75-4″. So my question is the photo of Jake the smaller figure or the larger 7″ scale? I believe this is the larger collector size figure. The reason I think that is this figure is built exactly like the current 7″ DC figures McFarlane is releasing. Same exact articulation points and the giveaway is the black pin used in the foot for the toes. I don’t think the smaller figures will have this level of articulation, this has butterfly joints in the shoulders, double jointed knees, elbows, the toe articulation. It’s hard to give that level of articulation on something that’s only 4″ tall.

The entire line is supposed to be revealed at D23, coming September 7th-10th. I love action figures so keep an eye here for updates and break downs on whats coming from the McFarlane Toys Avatar line.

Avatar: The High Ground Release Dates

Avatar: The High Ground Release Dates

Directly from Dark Horse Comics we have the release dates for all three volumes of Avatar-The High Ground. Amazon has different dates listed that don’t fully make sense, however these come directly from the publisher. This series is a prequel to Avatar-The Way of Water, so I’d expect all three volumes released before the Avatar sequel on 12/16/22, which these dates indicate.

Volume 1-It has been almost a decade since the humans were forced to leave Pandora–but now theyre returning–with an armada of heavily armed starships! After years of peace, Jake Sully has settled down with Neytiri and raised a family, so for him, the stakes are even higher than when he first went to war against the corporate might of the RDA.

Volume 2-Humans have returned to Pandora with an armada of starships but Jake Sully and the Navi are ready for them! Knowing this day would come, Jake has trained his Navi warriors with a plan that should make it too costly for the humans to try again . . . if the plan works.

But, any chain of events is only as strong as the weakest link, and in this case the weak link is human nature. As the plan unravels, Jake and Neytiri must race against time to return to Pandora and save their children before the starships land.

Volume 3-Jake Sully’s fears have come crashing to Pandora, gun’s blazing. The Sky People are planet-side, and taking Hell’s Gate by storm. Jake and Neytiri’s children are still on base, surrounded and outgunned. He will have to improvise and risk it all to protect his family, his people, and their home. The battle is underway and every Na’vi is in danger.
