Newest Avatar sequel updates

Jon Landau keeps posting fantastic updates and pictures from the Avatar sequels on his Facebook, if you aren’t following him directly, I highly suggest it.

https://www.facebook.com/JonLandauLA/

He most recently showed us a picture of the Sully family. If you aren’t aware in the sequels we are going to meet Jake and Neytiri’s family. Which consists of-

Jamie Flatters: Neteyam (neh-tay’-ahm), Jake and Neytiri’s first born son.
Britain Dalton: Lo’ak (loh’ ahk), Jake and Neytiri’s second born son.
Trinity Bliss: Tuktirey: (took-tee’-ray), goes mostly by “Tuk” (rhymes with “nuke”). She is youngest of the Sully family.

Jon’s post seems to indicate this is the Sully family. But what we’ve been told in the past was that Jack Champion (4th from left) is playing Javier “Spider” Socorro, a human teenager born at Hell’s Gate but prefers his time in the Pandoran rainforest more than the asphalt of Hell’s Gate. So I am now curious if Jack replaced Trinity Bliss in the Sully family or is this just a bit misleading? It’s quite possible Jack just happened to be with the group when the picture was taken and no character changes have been made.

The next update we received from Jon was about three members of the Metkayina Clan. The known members of the Metkayina Clan so far are-

Cliff Curtis: Tonowari, leader of the Metkayina Clan.
Bailey Bass: Tsireya (see-ray’-ah), aka “Reya.” She is a graceful and strong free-diver – the young Neytiri of the ocean.
Filip Geljo: Aonung (aw-nung’), a young male hunter/free-diver. Son of Tonowari.
Duane Evans Jr.: Rotxo (row’-txoh), a young male hunter/free-diver.

Up next is a photo Jon describes as JC and Sigourney discussing a recent dive. I am very curious what role Sigourney is going to play in the sequels. Is Grace alive in Eywa, is she a whole new character, will she just be around for some flashbacks? No matter what it is, it would seem she could be playing a large role going forward in the sequels.

Jon’s next post thanks the previously mentioned Jack Champion on completing his live action shots. This makes me lean towards the fact they didn’t change his role as Spider, a human, and he just so happened to be with the Sully family for the picture above. Or possibly he becomes an adopted part of the Sully family at some point. It seems we will have to wait to find out. Either way it’s really remarkable the transformation he made while working on the sequels.

Now this next post really excites me. I love seeing the sets and this is right up my alley. How awesome is this place? Described as the “High Camp Bio Lab,” I can’t wait to learn more about what High Camp is and who all is going to be working in this lab. I spot what looks like an Avatar tank, a couple of link beds, on the far right of the photo with JC you can read some of the words on the pictures. One photo says Hell’s Gate Bio Lab, one says Link Shack, and shows a photo of what appears to be Grace in human form. Lots of really interesting things going on here.

The next post was of a new vehicle we will be seeing. I’ve heard it called the Amp suit of the seas. In the first movie we had Sec-Ops, and this appears to have Cet-Ops on it. Very curious how this will be used. This particular version doesn’t appears to have any weapons, so possibly a mining vessel? Either way it will be cool to see more of it. Even cooler when the Na’vi light a few on fire.

This next post made me happy. It’s great seeing the cast and crew getting to see some of their hard word translated into a near final version. I know they are working lots of long and hard days and have been for months and even years. We still have quite awhile before we get to see all their work so I am sure it’s a huge boost getting to see a small part of it themselves. To everyone contributing to the movie, AvatarSequels.com says thank you!

AvatarSequels.com turned 2 this week

AvatarSequels.com turned 2 this week

I just wanted to say thank you for everyone who visits the site, who sends me messages, who gives me feedback. The site celebrated it’s 2nd birthday this week and I wanted to share some statistics with everyone. Trust me this isn’t to brag as this is a very small site, but I wanted to show everyone who visits that Avatar still has a following globally. The site has no advertising, you can find it through search engines, word online/of mouth, and on Instagram and Facebook. With that limited exposure we’ve still reached a lot of Avatar fans these last couple of years.

There have been 7,403 unique visitors from 125 countries, here are the 10 countries where the most visitors come from-

  1. US (from all 50 states and Washington DC)
  2. UK
  3. Netherlands
  4. Canada
  5. Germany
  6. Russia
  7. India
  8. Australia
  9. France
  10. Spain

So thank you to everyone who has and will visit, I keep this site going as a labor of love for the world that James Cameron created. It’s something I enjoy working on in my free time and hopefully share some things that people enjoy.

Happy 3 years to Pandora and Disney reopening dates

Happy 3 years to Pandora and Disney reopening dates

Happy 3 years to Pandora-The World of Avatar. I can’t believe it’s already been three years, in that short of time the park has been directly hit by hurricane Irma, subsequently closing for two days, and is currently closed do to the COVID-19 pandemic. However there is some promising news which I’ll get to shortly. I wanted to send a big irayo to all the cast and crew who’ve worked at Pandora and helped bring the area to life. I enjoyed watching the online updates in the years leading up to the Pandora addition and when I got the chance to visit it didn’t let me down. In fact it took all my expectations and blew them out of the water. Here is to many more birthdays for Pandora, and less disasters in the future.

Also I wanted to mention, starting July 11th Pandora/Animal Kingdom will begin a phased reopening process. According to CNN, Disney is implementing several measures to reopen safely and prevent the spread of the coronavirus at its parks, including the following-

  • Employees and guests will be required to wear face coverings and undergo temperature screenings before entering the parks.
  • Disney will reduce capacity at the parks and the resort will temporarily suspend parades, fireworks and other events that create crowds
  • The resort will also enable cashless transactions by expanding contactless payments.
  • Disney will also increase the number of available hand-sanitizing stations.

Update on Avatar live action filming from Jon Landau

Update on Avatar live action filming from Jon Landau

I applaud the decision makers at Lightstorm for doing the right thing. They want to get Avatar 2 and all the sequels out more than anyone, this is how they stay in business after all. However it sounds like they are making the best decision for the whole team staying in LA and working from there. I think it’s great they considered everyone families as well. After all these are just people, they may be struggling finding food or supplies just like the rest of us, they may be dealing with friends and family who have the virus. How can one pour their whole self into a movie when your family is thousands of miles away quarantined or even worse. If you follow any of the cast and crew on the various social media platforms send them a thoughtful message, they’ll probably appreciate it. It’s a great time to share love and compassion with one another, everyone has a lot on their plate to deal with right now.

Avatar Sequel filming in New Zealand delayed due to Covid-19

Avatar Sequel filming in New Zealand delayed due to Covid-19

Jon Landau spoke to the New Zealand Herald about the live action filming delay,

“If I told you we are going to know something in two weeks I’d be lying. I might not be wrong – even a broken clock is right twice a day. But I would be lying because I don’t know.

“We’ve delayed it. We had plans to come down Friday night with a group of people and start back up and we made the decision to hold off and continue working here [Los Angeles], and come down there a little bit later than we’d planned.

“We’re in the midst of a global crisis and this is not about the film industry. I think everybody needs to do now whatever we can do, as we say here, to flatten the [coronavirus] curve.”

Jon also went on to say that they would be reassessing the delay daily, and that they are trying to do whats in the best interest of the crew. He also said that even though there is a delay they will be working on getting as many minutes of film as possible to WETA who is working on all the digital effects.

You can read the full article here- NZ Herald

There is no official word yet if this will lead to another delay in the release of Avatar 2 which is currently slated for release on December 17th, 2021.

I thought these were fantastic, they show where some of the inspiration for particular pieces of the Mercedes Benz AVTR Vision came from. I especially like the atokirina (woodsprite) inspired wheel design. Even though this is a one off design we won’t be seeing on the road there are some fascinating things that went into this car that I hope to see carry over to production models in the future.

At the 2020 Consumer electronics show Mercedes Benz unveiled the Vision AVTR. Mercedes partnered with Avatar to create something very much from Earth that is inspired by Pandora. It has some truly unique features such as, “for the first time, the revolutionary battery technology is based on graphene-based organic cell chemistry and thus completely eliminates rare, toxic and expensive earths such as metals. Electromobility thus becomes independent of fossil resources. An absolute revolution is also the recyclability by composting, which is 100% recyclable due to the materiality.” While we will never see this particular car on the road, it sounds like it is helping Mercedes progress towards a more sustainable e-car in the future. I think we can all benefit from the technology gained in creating this beautiful car. Check out the link for even more information, and enjoy the video and pictures. Mercedes AVTR Vision
