Newest Avatar sequel updates

Newest Avatar sequel updates

Jon Landau keeps posting fantastic updates and pictures from the Avatar sequels on his Facebook, if you aren’t following him directly, I highly suggest it.

https://www.facebook.com/JonLandauLA/

He most recently showed us a picture of the Sully family. If you aren’t aware in the sequels we are going to meet Jake and Neytiri’s family. Which consists of-

Jamie Flatters: Neteyam (neh-tay’-ahm), Jake and Neytiri’s first born son.
Britain Dalton: Lo’ak (loh’ ahk), Jake and Neytiri’s second born son.
Trinity Bliss: Tuktirey: (took-tee’-ray), goes mostly by “Tuk” (rhymes with “nuke”). She is youngest of the Sully family.

Jon’s post seems to indicate this is the Sully family. But what we’ve been told in the past was that Jack Champion (4th from left) is playing Javier “Spider” Socorro, a human teenager born at Hell’s Gate but prefers his time in the Pandoran rainforest more than the asphalt of Hell’s Gate. So I am now curious if Jack replaced Trinity Bliss in the Sully family or is this just a bit misleading? It’s quite possible Jack just happened to be with the group when the picture was taken and no character changes have been made.

The next update we received from Jon was about three members of the Metkayina Clan. The known members of the Metkayina Clan so far are-

Cliff Curtis: Tonowari, leader of the Metkayina Clan.
Bailey Bass: Tsireya (see-ray’-ah), aka “Reya.” She is a graceful and strong free-diver – the young Neytiri of the ocean.
Filip Geljo: Aonung (aw-nung’), a young male hunter/free-diver. Son of Tonowari.
Duane Evans Jr.: Rotxo (row’-txoh), a young male hunter/free-diver.

Up next is a photo Jon describes as JC and Sigourney discussing a recent dive. I am very curious what role Sigourney is going to play in the sequels. Is Grace alive in Eywa, is she a whole new character, will she just be around for some flashbacks? No matter what it is, it would seem she could be playing a large role going forward in the sequels.

Jon’s next post thanks the previously mentioned Jack Champion on completing his live action shots. This makes me lean towards the fact they didn’t change his role as Spider, a human, and he just so happened to be with the Sully family for the picture above. Or possibly he becomes an adopted part of the Sully family at some point. It seems we will have to wait to find out. Either way it’s really remarkable the transformation he made while working on the sequels.

Now this next post really excites me. I love seeing the sets and this is right up my alley. How awesome is this place? Described as the “High Camp Bio Lab,” I can’t wait to learn more about what High Camp is and who all is going to be working in this lab. I spot what looks like an Avatar tank, a couple of link beds, on the far right of the photo with JC you can read some of the words on the pictures. One photo says Hell’s Gate Bio Lab, one says Link Shack, and shows a photo of what appears to be Grace in human form. Lots of really interesting things going on here.

The next post was of a new vehicle we will be seeing. I’ve heard it called the Amp suit of the seas. In the first movie we had Sec-Ops, and this appears to have Cet-Ops on it. Very curious how this will be used. This particular version doesn’t appears to have any weapons, so possibly a mining vessel? Either way it will be cool to see more of it. Even cooler when the Na’vi light a few on fire.

This next post made me happy. It’s great seeing the cast and crew getting to see some of their hard word translated into a near final version. I know they are working lots of long and hard days and have been for months and even years. We still have quite awhile before we get to see all their work so I am sure it’s a huge boost getting to see a small part of it themselves. To everyone contributing to the movie, AvatarSequels.com says thank you!

Avatar-The High Ground

Avatar-The High Ground

While we don’t have any official word on this release yet, Amazon UK had a pre-order up for a new Avatar series called Avatar-The High Ground. The pre-order has since been taken down but I took some screen shots last night when I saw it. The listing is brief but still tells us a lot of great information. Plus the cover looks fantastic.

This sounds really exciting. I have been waiting a long time to see what has happened on Pandora since Avatar ended, and we finally get to dive into that world again. I love that the book will be 96 pages, and is the first in a series of three. If the other two hold up we will be getting almost 300 pages of new Avatar goodness. I can’t wait to be introduced into the Sully family and revisit familiar faces and meet the all new ones. Being based of James Cameron’s unused sequel, and adapted by Sherri Smith almost assures us a fantastic story. Sherri was the writer of the previous Avatar comic series, Avatar-Tsu’tey’s Path. Even though the listing was pulled I hope it sticks to the January 23rd, 2020 release date and we will soon be diving back into some new Avatar goodness.

Big thanks to Nick for sharing this with me. Give him a follow, he’s a long time Avatar fan.

Revisiting the Avatar comic

Revisiting the Avatar comic

For those who don’t know about or don’t remember, lets take a step back to May 6th, 2017. Dark Horse comics released an Avatar comic on Free Comic Book Day (FCDB) to comic shops around the country. It was a short story but had some great artwork and colors. The story followed Jake Sully and filled in some missing details the movie didn’t have a chance to cover. It was a small taste of what is to come, but it was a fantastic tease. We haven’t received any official word of when the series will officially launch, but it is rumored to be sometime in 2020 before the release of Avatar 2. In case you haven’t picked up your own copy yet I won’t spoil it for you. But here is a couple of pages that show how the book turned out.

The series was originally announced by James Cameron at NYCC in October of 2015. He said it will follow story lines from the past, present, and future of the first Avatar movie. Also a preview of the cover was released that featured Akwey the horse clan leader from the first film, and even had him riding on a toruk. However before the comic was released it was updated to Jake Sully, both the main picture and the na’vi riding toruk.

If you didn’t pick up a free copy back in 2017 don’t worry, you can pick up a copy off ebay around $5 shipped. Just search FCBD Avatar. I leave you with the video of James Cameron announcing the comic book series.
