At the 2020 Consumer electronics show Mercedes Benz unveiled the Vision AVTR. Mercedes partnered with Avatar to create something very much from Earth that is inspired by Pandora. It has some truly unique features such as, “for the first time, the revolutionary battery technology is based on graphene-based organic cell chemistry and thus completely eliminates rare, toxic and expensive earths such as metals. Electromobility thus becomes independent of fossil resources. An absolute revolution is also the recyclability by composting, which is 100% recyclable due to the materiality.” While we will never see this particular car on the road, it sounds like it is helping Mercedes progress towards a more sustainable e-car in the future. I think we can all benefit from the technology gained in creating this beautiful car. Check out the link for even more information, and enjoy the video and pictures. Mercedes AVTR Vision
Well we made it to 2020! We are a little less than two years away from Avatar 2 and I’m excited to see what’s in store for this coming year. I know to the casual observer Avatar is currently in hiatus until closer until Avatar 2 drops, but when you look back at 2019 there were several nice Avatar experiences that happened or were continuing from previous years.
Starting in January we got the first issue of Tsu’tey’s Path from Dark Horse comics. In all the series spanned 6 issues and lasted until August.
- We also saw the end of Toruk-The First Flight from Cirque su Soleil, the show lasted from December 2015 until June of 2019. Some of the final show was even broadcast live on Facebook by Cirque.
- For the holidays, Pandora-The World of Avatar, got into the spirit by decorating the land with lights and ornaments.
- Plus most recently in December we had the 10 year anniversary celebration of Avatar. The celebration included cast and crew interviews, Pandora/Disney offering limited edition merchandise and cupcakes, and a social media celebration of the film.
So while we are all waiting for the big release of Avatar 2 on 12/17/21 (only 715 days away), there have been things to keep us in the world of Avatar and revisiting Pandora. I look forward to seeing what 2020 brings us.
Today is also an extra special day for me as it’s my personal 10 year anniversary of seeing Avatar for the first time.

Schedule for the rest of the day-
Also if you miss something they are showing the previously shown live video in a loop after it ends. so don’t worry it should be easy to catch anything you miss live.
For those of you who enjoy Reddit we now have our own sub (page) on there. Click the following link or just click Reddit at the top of the website. Giving this a try as this gives anyone who is a fan of the website an easy way to chat about Avatar and we have a chat room there. It also gives us a place to link up during the 10 year celebration. Let me know what you think!
Check out the new video from Avatar producer Jon Landau. To celebrate Avatar’s 10 year anniversary starting at midnight EST on December 18th James Cameron, Jon Landau, Zoe Saldana, Sam Worthington, CCH Pounder, Joel David Moore, Sigourney Weaver, and more cast and crew will be live to answer fans questions. You can submit questions on twitter using hashtag #Avatar10yearanniversary. You can find out a few more details on the video below.
I am extremely excited for this, get your questions in and remember to tune in to hopefully see them answered. Here is a link to Avatar’s twitter where the event will be taking place- https://twitter.com/officialavatar.
Also don’t forget, Shop Disney is selling some really cool 10th Anniversary merchandise that can be found at the following link- Shop Disney (Avatar).
In case you’ve missed it, Avatar will be on Disney+ at launch. I think this helps give the movie some great exposure in these next couple of years as we lead up to Avatar 2. It also makes sense since Disney can promote it with the tie in to Pandora-The World of Avatar. Plus I love they are giving Avatar the respect it deserves by being on the platform at launch. The Disney+ subscription looks very reasonably priced with some great shows if you’re a Disney owned property fan. Signing up gives you an initial free 7 day trial, which then leads into a few options. You can pay monthly for $6.99 or yearly for one payment of $69.99. Both prices are really great when compared with other competing streaming services available. After launch there will also be one more option, you can get a bundle of Disney+, Hulu, and ESPN+ for $12.99 a month. You can also download any TV show or movie on up to 10 devices, and steam 4 shows on up to 4 devices. You can sign up now at Disney+
The Eastern Sea Olo’eyktan (clan leader) is my favorite character not named Neytiri in Avatar. We know so little about her but I’ve noticed she has a lot of fans all over social media. That red war paint just looks so cool, plus she fearlessly leads her clan into battle after Toruk Makto comes and asks for their help. But after we see her and her clan fly into batter we sadly don’t see her again. So who is this red painted warrior who stands out in Avatar, will we see her again? Whats her clan name?
I think we might have some of the answers, although none of it is straight forward. Allow me to explain. Quite some time ago now Avatar.com updated and added some new information on their website. On thing added is a profile on some new clans. Some we had seen in Toruk: The First Flight, others we had seen in James Cameron’s: Avatar The Game, and others had been in Avatar the first movie, but their name wasn’t mentioned. We are only going to focus on one of those, the Tayrangi. Lets take a look at what Avatar.com says about the Tayrangi.
When I saw this the very first thing that stood out is the Eastern Sea Olo’eyktan is shown on her ikran in front, this screenshot Avatar.com used is taken from the final battle in Avatar. Also the Tayrangi “analysis” above describes what little we know of that clan. All they are mentioned in Avatar is by Jake, “the ikran people of the Eastern Sea.” So I don’t think its much of a reach to assume she is the Clan leader of the Tayrangi. She also shows up in the comic, Avatar: Tsu’tey’s Path, in the very last issue although no new information is given. Here is her appearance.
This brings me to the newest information I’ve come across and this is from Avatar: Pandora Rising, the new mobile game. Currently it is not yet released in the US so I haven’t played it. However it is available in some other countries and people have shared screenshots of the characters bio’s from the game. From those bio’s we get the first names we’ve seen for members of the Tayrangi clan.
Nanti, while a seemingly cool character doesn’t seem to provide any further information on the clans Olo’ektan, however does Tsentey provide a clue? His bio says he is husband of “Ikeyni.” Sadly we don’t have a bio from the game of anyone named Ikeyni, but they mention her, making me think she is someone possibly of more importance than simply being his wife. It’s just a guess, and one that could very well be wrong but I am thinking Ikeyni may very well be our red war paint Tayrangi leader. The only other thing that might support this is the fact he is a veteran ikran rider, and I’m going to assume our red paint Tayrangi leader is also someone who is a veteran of a clan. I wouldn’t think the Na’vi select young clan leaders unless the older veteran leader has died or become unable to lead. So it would make sense to me if our Tayrangi leader has a husband they’d both be considered veterans.
What are you thoughts? It is admittedly a stretch to try and connect those dots, but I think it’s a solid theory with what little information we have so far. Let me know what you think via social media, or the comments! Thanks to Exostrike for showing me where the Pandora Rising bio’s were, and to Tsu’rat for sharing them with the community.
*EDIT* As of 6/16/20 we now have confirmation Ikeyni is indeed her name. Thanks to Olly on the LN discord server for sharing this and again Exostrike for alerting me.
Happy Halloween ma tsmuke and tsmukans. I wanted to celebrate by showing some of the extremely talented makeup artists, cosplayers, and fans of Avatar that have been showing up on my Instagram feed lately. I love that they are all super talented and created something similar, yet all are still different. There are different shades of blue, different stripes, and eyebrows, just showing us there are so many ways to accomplish the same thing and still look phenomenal. The artists come from all over the world. I hope these pictures can inspire you to create your own Na’vi costume for this Halloween, or even next year, the Instagram names with a link to each artists page is included above their photo. So if you see any you like give them a like or send them a message and let them know. Stay safe on Halloween everyone. The pumpkin above is from 2010 and shared by Fantasy Pumpkins. Check out their page for a really cool Toruk Makto pumpkin as well.
Julia is someone who I’ve followed since I first heard and saw this amazing music video I’ve shared below. She has a truly amazing voice and today the official Avatar account recognized her fantastic cosplay. Check her out, and let Avatar, James Cameron, and Jon Landau know if you’d like to hear her on one of the Avatar sequel soundtracks.
While we don’t have any official word on this release yet, Amazon UK had a pre-order up for a new Avatar series called Avatar-The High Ground. The pre-order has since been taken down but I took some screen shots last night when I saw it. The listing is brief but still tells us a lot of great information. Plus the cover looks fantastic.
This sounds really exciting. I have been waiting a long time to see what has happened on Pandora since Avatar ended, and we finally get to dive into that world again. I love that the book will be 96 pages, and is the first in a series of three. If the other two hold up we will be getting almost 300 pages of new Avatar goodness. I can’t wait to be introduced into the Sully family and revisit familiar faces and meet the all new ones. Being based of James Cameron’s unused sequel, and adapted by Sherri Smith almost assures us a fantastic story. Sherri was the writer of the previous Avatar comic series, Avatar-Tsu’tey’s Path. Even though the listing was pulled I hope it sticks to the January 23rd, 2020 release date and we will soon be diving back into some new Avatar goodness.
Big thanks to Nick for sharing this with me. Give him a follow, he’s a long time Avatar fan.
