It’s hard to tell from this little amount of information but it sure looks like it. Updates to follow as we learn more.

Meanwhile, James Cameron’s Avatar 2 and its followups have been delayed again. The first of the planned sequel films has been pushed back a year, from Dec. 18, 2020 to Dec. 17, 2021. Avatar 4 has been delayed a year, from December 2024 to Dec. 29, 2025, while Avatar 5 has moved two years from December 2025 to Dec. 27, 2027. The Avatar sequels have a long history of being pushed, with filmmaker James Cameron in the past stating he needed more time to refine the technology for the films, which he shooting consecutively. “Busy on set, so no time to hang around but just dropping in to share the news — Sivako!” he tweeted Tuesday after the news broke.

It would seem it is in fact about the first sequel, Avatar 2 is now pushed back again.

Live Action Filming on the sequels is about to begin in New Zealand

Live Action Filming on the sequels is about to begin in New Zealand

Hey guys! First of all let me say, this is a very exciting time for us Avatar fans, as motion capture has wrapped up we now are moving to the next phase, live action filming. As with the first Avatar the cast and crew is going to be doing live action filming at Stone Creek Studios. Jon Landau has been sharing some new and exciting photos of himself, James Cameron, and some of the cast and crew who are already in New Zealand preparing to shoot. Besides the first Avatar, Stone Creek Studios has also hosted production of the Lord of the Rings trilogy and the Hobbit trilogy. Being in New Zealand helps James Cameron and crew be close to Weta Digital as well, who is currently working on the VFX for Avatar 2 and 3.

There is a new Avatar book coming called The World of Avatar: A Visual Celebration, it is set to be released on October 1st of this year. The title may be a bit confusing as we already have the theme park Pandora-The World of Avatar, but this is totally separate from that. Here is a description of the book from the publisher Penguin Random House.

It looks pretty cool to me, and I love Avatar books, so I am very excited to pick this us. You can pre-order it now from Amazon for $19.99 at the link below.
